Parental Support Workshops

The Spirited Child Workshops are offered at various schools, community networks, and children’s centers.  E-mail Jill for her current schedule, or to inquire about enlisting her services for your parent group.

Summer Fun Activities:  Suggestions on activities, crafts, outings, and fun things to do in the summer with young children.

Fall Fun Activities:  Suggestions on activities, crafts, outings, and fun things to do in the fall with young children.

Winter Boredom Busters: Suggestions on activities, crafts, outings, and fun things to do in the winter with young children.

Tackling Toddler Tantrums (a/k/a Managing Challenging Childhood Behavior):  Discuss ways to identify why children act the way they do, and ways to develop strategies to manage challenging behaviors.

“It Works For Me”:  Parent tested tips about everything from stain removal, easing transitions, packing for a day trip, fussy eating, avoiding toddler tantrums, and more!  Participants are encouraged to share their own “tricks of the trade.”

Favorite Children’s Literature:  Review and discuss books that have proven themselves to be favorites of young children, and have instilled the budding love of reading and literature.  Also discussed are crafts and activities that can be used to complement the stories.

Developing Early Literacy Skills:  Discuss the behaviors and skills that young children develop as they begin their journey to grow in literacy. Learn strategies to encourage your child to develop a life-long love of reading. 

Preserving Precious Memories as Your Child Grows:  Various methods of recording memories are outlined and demonstrated – scrap-booking, journaling, organizing photos, creating albums, video and audio taping.

Ages and Stages:  A four-part series discussing the developmental milestones of children in the areas of  Cognitive, Physical, Speech and Language, and Social and Emotional Development.  The first part covers the first year of  life, part two covers 12 months-2 years, part three covers 2-3 years of age, and part four covers 3-4 year old children.

Made With Love:  Homemade holiday gifts and crafts your young child will delight in making and sharing. 

When You’re Tired of Yelling:  Talking and Listening in the Family:  Communication is the foundation of our relationships.  This workshop will explore effective communication which involves both expressing ourselves clearly and really listening to others.

Siblings Without Rivalry:  Series based on this book by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish, to learn and practice specific skills on how to reduce conflict and increase respect between siblings.
